I
was born on March 5th, 1949 in Bergisch Gladbach near the 2000 year old
city of Cologne in Germany. Cologne
missed its 2000-year anniversary celebrations because, right about when
they were gearing up for the grand festivities, they dug up a few extra
ruins even older than the two millenia, and thus they were cheated out
of one huge big party. Sigh, poor Colonians. :)
I
received my technical education in Cologne from the "Nikolaus-August-Otto
Ingenieurschule" (School of Engineering) which is now called Fachhochschule
Köln or University of Applied Science as they call themselves
in English. (Nikolaus August Otto was the inventor of the four-stroke-combustion
engine, so if you drive a car you have something to thank him for.) At
this illustrious educational facility that bears Otto's name, I majored
in "Electrical Engineering" with a minor in "Data Processing". I have worked
in the computer industry for over 20 years, with more than 15 years of
experience as a manager.
In
1974 I married Una Jeffers, an American whom I met in Cologne in Germany.
Una is the granddaughter of the late American poet Robinson
Jeffers. - Una grew up in a lovely stone house called "Tor
House" , it has a massive 40 foot high granite tower that her grandfather
built right on the Pacific ocean in the charming little town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
I
came to the U.S.A. in the summer of 1976 and we settled
for 25 years in Sunnyvale
in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before I joined "Sun
Microsystems, Inc." in 1989, I worked for 8 years as an engineering
manager at "Rolm Corporation" a telecommunication company (now a part of
Siemens AG Germany); and before that at "Spectra Medical Systems" a provider
of hospital administration systems.
Our
hobbies are:
We
like to travel and I have been to places like Peru and the Amazon river,
Japan, India, and all over Europe. Sometimes I wrote a trip report or have
photos online. They can be viewed here.
I like Art very much. Currently I enjoy sculpting in Bronze and Clay,
painting and drawing very much. In Dec 2002 I had two sculptures
exhibited at the Grants
Pass Museum of Art here in Oregon. At the moment I am taking sculpture
classes at the Umpqua Community College here in Roseburg. I also frequent
the UVAA Pottery Lab to try my hands at the potters wheel; but it
is Sculpture I really love. You can view some of my works on
my Arts Webpages.
Una's
